Aware of Your Social Consciousness

Socially aware of those things around us as humans we should all strive to be! But what is exactly socially aware?

Sitting as legs buckle, palms sweat, and shifted nervousness in the lower pelvis takes over the body. A body that is believed to be healthy and fit for all the ups and downs of old age. How old? Is that age teens, early 20’s, or late 30’s? The swab test from teeth to gums holding a stick of saliva. The stick placed in the chemicals to produce a result of shame or relief. Sitting as legs buckle palms sweat, and shifted nervousness in the lower pelvis begins to take over the body for 20 minutes. Not before all of the questions on the sheet are answered. 1) Have you ever had unprotected sex? 2) Of the opposite sex or same-sex? 3) Was that person affected? 4) How do you know? You list your name, address, and how many sexual partners? Do you remember?

Are we social conscious about our surroundings and bodies? Walking away from a HIV Testing event to hear a stranger on the street just passing by to say “I too am affected with the disease.” A silent killer among many women; African-American women. Women of color die, are affected, are living in silence.
